چکیده

In Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networks (DTNs) [1], packet forwarding is based on the store-carry-and-forward paradigm. Basically, each node has a buffer and is able to store messages persistently, until an appropriate forwarding opportunity arises. In addition, several routing protocols for DTNs employ message replication as an alternative to increase the message delivery rate. The role of a forwarding policy for DTNs is to determine the packets a node should forward to a neighbor during a contact. Forwarding a packet, in this context, implies sending a replica and does not mean discarding it, which may lead to frequent buffer overflow. Thus, node must employ a buffer management policy to define which message should be dropped if its buffer is full. In this paper, we evaluate three well-known forwarding policies – FIFO, random, and GRTRMAX – jointly with our proposed buffer management policy named Least Recently Forwarded (LRF) [3]. Our goal is to identify the forwarding policy that is more suitable to be used with LRF.

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Contact Duration-Aware Epidemic Broadcasting in Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networks

DTNs (Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networks) composed of mobile nodes in low node-density environments have attracted considerable attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose a CD-BCAST (Contact Duration BroadCAST) mechanism that can reduce the number of message forwardings while maintaining short message delivery delays in DTNs composed of mobile nodes. The key idea behind CD-BCAST is to...

Optimal monotone forwarding policies in delay tolerant mobile ad-hoc networks

We study in this paper fluid approximations for a class of monotone relay policies in delay tolerant ad-hoc networks. This class includes the epidemic routing and the two-hops routing protocols. We enhance the relay policies with a probabilistic forwarding feature where a message is forwarded to a relay with some probability p. We formulate an optimal control problem where a tradeoff between de...

Design an Efficient Community-based Message Forwarding Method in Mobile Social Networks

Mobile social networks (MSNs) are a special type of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) in which mobile devices communicate opportunistically to each other. One of the most challenging issues in Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is to design an efficient message forwarding scheme that has a high performance in terms of delivery ratio, latency and communication cost. There are two different approaches fo...

Online Algorithms for Adaptive Optimization in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) are an emerging type of networks which do not need a predefined infrastructure. In fact, data forwarding in DTNs relies on the contacts among nodes which may possess different features, radio range, battery consumption and radio interfaces. On the other hand, efficient message delivery under limited resources, e.g., battery or storage, requires to optimize forward...
